The Virgin and Child with Saint Agnes in a Landscape
Historical Context
Pietro degli Ingannati, a Venetian painter active in the early sixteenth century, created this Virgin and Child with Saint Agnes in a Landscape around 1520. Working in the tradition of the Bellini school, Ingannati produced devotional works of warm Venetian quality. The tempera-on-panel medium required a carefully gessoed surface and was painted in fine, precise layers, yielding a luminous, jewel-like surface of great durability.
Technical Analysis
The panel shows warm Venetian technique with atmospheric landscape, soft modeling, and the gentle devotional mood characteristic of the post-Bellini generation.
