Noli me Tangere: Christ Appearing to the Magdalen

Girolamo da Santacroce created this work around 1525 during the High Renaissance period. The painting reflects the artistic traditions and cultural preoccupations of its time and place of origin. The painting is in the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery. The 1520s were a decade of transition, marked by the deaths of Raphael and Leonardo, the shock of the Reformation, and the beginnings of Mannerist experimentation.
