Lamentation of Christ

Bernhard Strigel, court painter to Emperor Maximilian I and the leading artist of Memmingen, produced portraits and altarpieces for the patrician families and churches of the Swabian region. This Lamentation of Christ was created around 1509 and is now held at the Strigel Museum Bernhard Strigel served as court painter to Emperor Maximilian I, making him among the most sought-after portraitists in the Habsburg world during the early sixteenth century.
