Landscape with saints

Dosso Dossi created this Landscape with Saints around 1527, placing sacred figures within his characteristically poetic landscape settings. As the leading painter at the Este court in Ferrara, Dosso was renowned for his atmospheric landscapes. The painting is in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. The 1520s were a decade of transition, marked by the deaths of Raphael and Leonardo, the shock of the Reformation, and the beginnings of Mannerist experimentation.
