L'Annonciation
Historical Context
Jacquelin de Montluçon was a French painter active in the Berry and Bourbonnais regions during the late fifteenth century. This Annunciation panel from around 1496 reflects the artistic traditions of central France, where painters worked under both Netherlandish and Italian influences. Provincial French painting of this period remains relatively little studied despite producing distinctive regional styles.
Technical Analysis
Oil on panel with a blend of Netherlandish technical precision and French compositional sensibilities. The Annunciation scene follows standard iconographic conventions rendered with provincial character.
