Jesus amongst the Doctors of the Law

Master of Sigena created this painting around 1515, now in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. The work reflects the artistic production of the High Renaissance period, when workshops across Europe produced paintings for churches, courts, and private collectors. The tempera-on-panel medium required a carefully gessoed surface and was painted in fine, precise layers, yielding a luminous, jewel-like surface of great durability.
