Archangel Saint Michael

Floriano Ferramola, a Brescian painter and military engineer, painted this Archangel Saint Michael around 1528. Ferramola's dual career as artist and engineer gave him an unusual command of architectural perspective and structural composition. The 1520s were a decade of transition, marked by the deaths of Raphael and Leonardo, the shock of the Reformation, and the beginnings of Mannerist experimentation.
