Mary as Queen of Heaven
Historical Context
Master of the Habsburgs created this painting around 1507, now in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The work reflects the artistic production of the High Renaissance period, when workshops across Europe produced paintings for churches, courts, and private collectors. The tempera-on-panel medium required a carefully gessoed surface and was painted in fine, precise layers, yielding a luminous, jewel-like surface of great durability.
Technical Analysis
The painting demonstrates the techniques and compositional approach characteristic of High Renaissance painting, with careful attention to the subject matter and the visual conventions of the period.
