Nativity and Saint John the Evangelist

Guerau Gener created this work around 1450, now in Barcelona's Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. The Nativity was one of the most frequently depicted scenes in Renaissance art, central to the liturgical cycle and a staple of both altarpiece and private devotional painting. The Early Renaissance period saw significant artistic innovation across Europe, with painters developing new techniques for representing the visible world with unprecedented naturalism and spatial coherence.
