The Lamentation

Rodrigo de Osona, who was one of the leading painters of the Valencian school, introducing Renaissance elements into Iberian painting, created this work around 1486, now in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This work reflects the artistic culture of Valencia during the Early Renaissance, when painters were forging new approaches to representation through the study of perspective, anatomy, and natural light.
