Martino di Bartolomeo's Saint Stephen with the Angel of the Annunciation, painted around 1412, combines two distinct iconographic subjects in a single panel, suggesting its origin as part of a larger polyptych ensemble. Martino was a Sienese painter who maintained the refined traditions of the school while working extensively in Pisa and other Tuscan cities.
