Annunciation and Three Kings of the Epiphany

The Master of Baltimore, an anonymous Catalan painter active in the mid-fourteenth century, created this panel combining the Annunciation with the Adoration of the Magi. Catalan Gothic painting developed its own distinctive character within the broader Iberian and Mediterranean Gothic traditions, blending Italianate and French influences with local Romanesque traditions. The work, now in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, exemplifies the rich devotional art production of the Crown of Aragon.
